Christianity in Naruto
The popular manga Naruto contains imagery that strikingly resembles Christian themes. Here are some parallels. The ancient Princess Koyuki Kazahana resembles Eve…..The princess ate from the tree of chakra, making her the first of all ninja. Likewise, Eve ate fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and was the first woman of all mankind. The knowledge and chakra are also alike in their double-sided use. Chakra on one hand empowered humans to be stronger, but carried the potential to destroy mankind if abused. The knowledge of good and evil had both good and bad effects. It could be used to understand what was right in order to please God. But it also created sin among mankind, who could use the knowledge to rebel against God.
Jiraiya’s toad elder prophesies the appearance of a “child of prophecy” having the potential to change the world – though whether for better or worse was somewhat unclear, We know it must be better, because the child is Naruto. He symbolizes Jesus in the Bible, and each of these is destined to be the savior of the world.
A book by Jiraiya parallels the Bible, because both have fate-changing effects on mankind. Jiraiya’s book was also prophesied by the toad elder to change the course of world history by turning the world towards peace. Both the Bible and Jiraiya’s book, however, often go unread.
Orochimaru’s snake likeness reminds us of Satan, who appeared in the form of a serpent. Orochimaru brands people with the three-tomoe mark, symbolizing Satan’s number 666. Both went from being highly honored beings to being destructive agents of chaos (Orochimaru was one of the legendary sannin whose favorite word was “chaos”). Both lead a force of followers, and Orochimaru’s appear demonic when transformed.
The Sage of the Six Path’s sons, Indra and Asura, may represent Abraham’s sons, Ishmael and Joseph. Descendants of these pairs are in eternal conflict with one another. Ishmaelites (present day Arabs) have warred with Joseph’s descendants (present day Jews) to this day. They were prophesied to do so and were deemed hostile people (Genesis 16:12 in the Bible). In Naruto, the Uchiha, who focus on force and strength, continuously fight Senju, who focus on love and cooperation. Uchiha specialize in battle, while Senju people are good at healing and enlivening such substances as wood.
The Tsukuyomi bears resemblance to Roman crucifixion. This technique binds a victim in a nightmarish experience inside their mind that seems to last three days, and he awakens afterwards. The sufferer is depicted as hanging arms outspread on a cross while being repeatedly pierced by a sword by the attacker. Likewise, Jesus was said to have been in the grave three days after his crucifixion before being resurrected, and was pierced by a spear while hanging on his cross.
